RHB TravelFX Card
In a nutshell. RHB TravelFX Card used for ATM withdrawal, there were 4 withdrawals in total. Overall compared to the exchange rate.
RHB TravelFX Card offers pretty nice exchange rates, something I don’t have to be bothered over which money changer to go to. Anyway, the best part of each withdrawal is a ATM charge of 220 yen. Converts to about $2.7 – 2.8 SGD. I am very willing to pay.
Some may ask, then why don’t you simply get your cash changed and you don’t have to give to the bank. I see it on both spectrum and think it works out the same. You lose the currency rate to Money Changer or you lose the amount to ATM Machines. Whichever your preference. you will still lose a bit.
YouTrip Card
YouTrip Card used for Credit Card Transaction. 2 Transactions in total.
Quite unnerving, because you have to transfer the currency and make my exchange right before i pass my YouTrip Card to the cashier.
Read my application process of both cards in my previous post.
RHB TravelFX Card
I did my homework and decided this will be the ATM Cash withdrawal card. The advantage, there’s no charge for your first 20 cash withdrawals. The only charge is from the ATM machine which i encountered (220Yen) which is cheaper than using our standard local bank card to get money.
Do Take note on the Maximum of 50,000Yen per day.
I forgot the ATM machine have a VISA PLUS sign or not. The only ATM which exempt me of the bank charge was from Narita Airport.

Another note is, only key in multiples of 10,000. You can’t withdraw 5000 or 8000 yen. It doesn’t work. Or 15,000yen. Also, fail. I tried 4 times and only realize the yellow highlighted words on left.

YOUTrip Card
Youtrip card was used for credit card shopping.
Because this card have no processing fee for it’s usage. Instead, the if you use the card for ATM withdrawal, there is a charge.
My only purchases are in Ragtag and 2nd Street. In fact, it’s quite unnerving, the cashier have to wait afew seconds for my account to do conversion before I hand over the MasterCard. Because I transferred the exact amount of cash to youtrip account before I convert to Japanese Yen. So tat I know the exact amount of my spending. So that I can track how much was deducted from my account.

Overall
I find this card is suitable for user who do not like carrying cash. And are able to track expenditures very well.
As for me, I would prefer to use cash if necessary because I do not like the dirty look of Japanese/Chinese sales personel giving me the dirty look when I am doing 10 seconds bank transfer at the cashier(even though no one is at the Queue) But actually it’s pretty understandable since they don’t like people doing 2 things at the same time.
The whole experience because the fear of having no wifi/4G reception is quite unnerving.
PROS
Able to track expenditures clearly
Save money with the tracking system
Good exchange rates
Get to exchange bargain rates if you’re lucky
Especially useful when you are cash strapped
Can easily transfer cash in both cards
Super useful during emergency
CONS
Unable to transfer cash back to bank
Not suitable for a Budget spender
Try both cards and experience it for your self. It’s quite fun to monitor the exchange rates actually. And the best of all is – It’s free! Happy shopping!
