It was a wonderful night of free flowing jazz with Jeremy Monteiro and friends.

The show kicked off with 2 instrumentals. First a trio performance with Benjamin Poh on the double bass and Hong Chanutr Techatana-nan on drums, followed by the introduction of guitarist, Eugene Pao and Shawn Letts on the saxophone. Jeremy gave a rendition of My Cherie Amor before he introduced his first vocal guest.

Things started to get fun with the inclusion of Stephen Francis with his raw vocals, sporting a pair of shades and shaking his head like Stevie Wonder. Jeremy Monteiro added that “he is old enough to get away with it”.

The smooth voice of Nick Zavior provided the soothing feeling of old school ballads as he belted out Lately and If It’s Magic. Accompanied by the impressive harmonica of Jen Bunge, it gave the songs the Stevie Wonder flavour.

Live version unavailable, so will have to make do with the studio recording BTS version

A horn section was pulled in and the tempo picked up with a Jeremy getting everyone to clap along to I Wish.

As some of the instrumentalists went for a break, Jeremy gave us his Sinatra version of You Are The Sunshine Of My Life.

Alemay Fernandez with her powerful diva like voice was perfect for Summer Soft and the closing song, Sir Duke. Listening to her scatting was pure joy as she blended with the instruments so easily and smoothly.

The encore was You and I, sung by Jeremy and with all 3 singers singing Love’s In Need Of Love Today. With the last song done, a standing ovation by a very happy and appreciative audience was showered upon the performers.

What a great night of music.
