Initial first scene of Diner was a little musical kind of movie setting. I know there’s something special about this movie. Something like Moulin Rogue and 2046 and Kokuhaku (告白). The editing in the beginning was jarring and quite uncomfortable viewing on on the ANA flight screen.

I mean the screen was near me and the flash edits are too fast.
There are few times i am tempted to switch to other movies.

But then I wanted to continue watching because there’s this familiar production i know i’ve seen before. So, i got to hang on and figure out.

So this movie was inspired by Yumeaki Hirayama Novel in 2009, then Radio drama broadcast on 2013 and then manga in 2018 which is still ongoing.

So we were greeted by Tina Tamashiro as the main character. I seldom watch her movie, so i’m not used to her looks. But she will grow on you. Given her character of a desponded lost kid and then shone toward the end. It was a good job throughout the film.

And yes, after the first and second scene of Diner ダイナー, I was rewarded with Tatsuya Fujiwara wonderful appearance. Enigmatic as usual. Great Actor. Seriously look at Chef’s costume. Fabulous design!

Look out for this scene:

Living a unfulfilled dream is what gives some people a reason to live.

Diner Conclusion

There’s alot going on in this movie. I hope you’re not bored, which i’m not.
I think the biggest takeaway i got from this movie, is “Impartation”.

No matter who you are or what you do. You can give your knowledge to someone and in turn that person will share it to his/her community. You can contribute to the society big or small. Don’t give gifts, give yourself and your mind to someone who wants it.
The meaning in life is in Discipleship or Impartation.

Anyway I am slowly fascinated by the colours and lightings which this director played with. Again this sense of familiarity lingers as i continue watching. I am not able to point my finger on what it was.
It wasn’t till the end credit then i realise the director did Helter Skelter!

Anyway Bravo to Diner ダイナー and Mika Ninagawa. You won me over once again.
