Simply Happy – สุขพอดี Coffee Beans
Year 2020 Coffee bean taste list is from Chiang Mai. I asked CT to help get some Whole coffee beans from the land of smiles. I was initially hoping for some green beans, so i can learn some roasting. But the beans in Chiang Mai are pre-roasted for small sample size.
He got a total of 5 packs of assorted beans.

Black Honey Process – Chiang Rai
Black Honey Process really does have honey in the note and taste! The best part, it’s actually a very pleasant blend. Sweet honey and fresh, quite full-bodied.
I had an accidental discovery on the coffee grind. I forgot to reset my coffee grinder to a smaller size. So I just happily poured 20gram of beans into Hario Skerton Grinder and started turning manually. The beans turned out coarse to medium coarse size.
But it turned out even better then I thought! So I tried dailing back to smaller size powder and the taste just isn’t there.
So this is a new discovery for me.
I will grind 2 set of 15gram beans, one medium fine another batch of 15gm medium coarse. Tasting 2 cups is a joy.
In fact, I am a happier coffee brewer now!
Natural Process – Chiang Mai
I will crown this bean to be the most earthy taste by far. Slight hint of unprocessed cocoa, to be clearer – wet cardboard. I manage to finish it quickly because of its just 100gm. 4 days and I’m done. I don’t have anything good to talk about this bean, totally inconsistent roast between dark, medium-light and loads of husk.
Water Temperature Used – 85-90
Signature Natural Process – Chiang Mai
Similar to Natural Process, but this bean has it’s redeeming factor. Roast is pretty uniform. My very first hand drip was pretty alright. I find it medium-bodied and lightly mellow. Everything goes downhill after that.
Pretty average bean. there’s no signature taste in it. Maybe i’m not reasdy to try out artisan roasted beans,
Water Temperature Used – 80-95
My water temperature range will always at 80-85 degrees Celcius. I find moderating at this temperature gives me satisfactory coffee extraction from my hand dripper set.
Ponganes Coffee Roaster – Ocean Blend
Opened the Ocean Blend, my first packet of Proganes bean. Beautifully roasted bean. I was pleased with the notes but found it wanting during my 3-day grind. Couldn’t get to the right calibration.
Finally, I opted for a cold water hand drip and found the taste to be wonderful! Clean crisp bouquet, mellow and refreshing.
Suzuki Colombian Supremo
To be honest this is the worst coffee I had in 2019/2020. I had myself to blame even though knowing it’s ground coffee (not coffee beans). I didn’t know the coffee grain size before committing. So I really struggled to finish this batch of coffee ground.
Boncafe Morning Gourmet Coffee Beans
This bean is one that truly surprised me so much I was very satisfied with the purchase.
One of the most excellent buy of 2019. What really got to me is the brightness and slight crisp floral note.
Quite enjoyable and non-fussy. I can be sure of the consistency of what I wish to taste.
Can’t complain about an S$7.30 for 200gram beans.
