Chiangmai Eat 1 : Gaprow Saao Ha กะเพราซาวห้า

Who would have thought that there would be such a cheap meal in a modern food court?
I know the photos don’t look entirely appetising but trust me, it is really not bad for just 25thb!

Gaprow Saao Ha กะเพราซาวห้า is located in the food court of One Nimman called One Market. When you head in through the main entrance (where you can see the words One Market), turn left and keep going till the end. You should end up at a food stall on wheels.

I went there quite late so they were actually done with their cooking for the day and the remaining stuff were packed for takeaways, hence the shape of my rice.

If you cannot take spice, then go for their pork with garlic, Moo Thod หมูทอด.
I must say again, 25thb for each dish! Value for money!

We also ordered fried tofu and fried yam/taro at 50thb each. Not really recommended though.

Gaprow Saao Ha กะเพราซาวห้า is located at One Nimman (which is also the address)

Chiangmai Eat 2 : Ba Mi Geow บะหมี่เกี๊ยว

If you haven’t sat by the road side to have a meal, you haven’t been to Thailand.
I don’t even know the name of this noodle shop, so I’ll just call it the Ba Mi Geow บะหมี่เกี๊ยว (Wonton noodles) shop.

The usual noodle shops use loads of MSG in their soup, this one doesn’t have as much. I didn’t get very thirsty after finishing 2 bowls of noodles.

We had the ones with red pork, fried pork and wontons : Soup, dry and no noodle versions.

Opens only in the evening and located next to S&P Chang Peuak.
300/9-11 Manee Nopparat Road, Chiang Mai 50000, Thailand

Chiangmai Eat 3 : Khao Ngiao Mamuang Mana ข้าวเหนียวมะม่วงมานะ

I’m not really a fan of mango sticky rice but you definitely need to give this place a go at least once. It has mango all year round!

The mango is sweet and aromatic but the thing that got me was the texture of the sticky rice. You could feel the grains with every bite. It was flavourful by itself but with the coconut milk you have a nice blend of salty and sweet.
We also tried their version of kaya, but it tastes more like sweet egg 🥚 from Japan

Mana mango with sticky rice is located at @chiangmai hotel :
77/1 Ratvithi Rd, Si Phum Sub-district, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50200, Thailand

Chiangmai Eat 4 : Kanom Jeen Nam Ngiao Tha Pae Roi Bpi ขนมจีนน้ำเงี้ยวท่าแพร้อยปี

I know the name is quite a mouthful but the shop didn’t have a name until after 100 years!

They boil their flavourful soup over charcoal and you can get very decent Nam Ngiao at 25thb
Recommended for those who miss eating pig’s blood!

Their Khao Ngiao (Sticky Rice) is unique, the rice is flavoured and cooked beforehand. It comes with fried shallots on top of it with the shallot oil drizzling down its sides.

Located directly behind Gateway Coffee Roaster :
Chang Moi Road Soi 2

Chiangmai Eat 5 : Sala Mong Ohsot สล่ามองโอสถ

After all the eating, its time to take a break and have a glass of traditional herbal drink just for 5thb! ($0.23)

Sala Mong Ohsot สล่ามองโอสถ offers this sweet spicy herbal tea that is supposed to support digestion, alleviate excess heat, back and waist pain. The pepper will hit you at the end.

In the shop, you can also find traditional cough medication at 20thb. Be warned, it is bitter like all good Chinese medicine.

They are located at 191-193 Thapae Road, Tambon Chang Moi, Amphoe Mueang Chiang Mai, Chang Wat Chiang Mai 50300

Chiangmai Eat 6 : Wikul Panich วิกุลพาณิช

Big traditional pork buns that come in 2 sizes. The big ones are 35thb and the small ones are 18thb.

You might have to queue up to wait for every fresh batch that comes out of the steamer.
There are no seats so it is 100% takeaway only

Inside the bun is filled with chunky porky goodness, salted egg and lup cheong. The bun is not dry and chewy like the mass produced char siew pau at the kopitiams we have here in Singapore.

The taste of the siew mais are also slightly different, less savoury than the Cantonese counterpart but generous with the meat.

Wikul Panich is located opposite Brewing Room :
138 Charoen Muang Rd, Wat Ket, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50000, Thailand

Chiangmai Eat 7 : Gluay Thod Bat Q กล้วยทอดบัตรคิว

Another shop with no official name (I think). If you like snacks, this is the place for you!

Gluay Thod Bat Q กล้วยทอดบัตรคิว (Fried Banana, Queue Card) has 2 woks that are always full and constantly frying the battered bananas and taro.

You need to take a queue number before ordering. We ordered the banana and taro which includes the crumbs from the fried batter.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to take any photos of the purchases because we were eating it once we got back in the car. I only realised we had one piece of banana left for a photo!

Gluay Thod Bat Q กล้วยทอดบัตรคิว is around 95 Kong Sai Rd, Tambon Wat Ket, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50000, Thailand
